Why this site exists
Buying fragrance online is an act of faith. You cannot smell a product page, the marketing copy for every bottle claims the same seductive mystery, and most published advice is written for climates that have nothing in common with an Australian summer. Spending $200 on something that turns out to be unwearable in your city is a genuinely common experience.
ScentMatch exists to reduce that risk. For every fragrance we track we publish the full note pyramid, an honest longevity and projection estimate, the seasons it actually performs in, the occasions it suits, and an indicative Australian price — plus a shortlist of genuinely comparable alternatives, including cheaper ones.
What we cover
Our catalogue holds 50 fragrances from 31 houses, chosen for a mix of global sales volume, Australian search demand and enduring reputation. It spans supermarket-price classics like Cool Water through to niche releases such as Baccarat Rouge 540 and Santal 33. It is deliberately curated rather than exhaustive: a shorter list we can describe carefully is more useful than a database we cannot.
Our editorial rules
- No paid placement. No brand can buy an entry, a ranking or a kind word. Ever.
- No invented data. We do not publish fabricated review scores, star ratings or review counts, and we do not add them to our structured data to win rich results.
- Cheaper alternatives get named. Where an inexpensive bottle rivals a luxury reference, we say so on the expensive fragrance’s own page.
- Flaws get stated. Short longevity, batch inconsistency, poor heat performance and counterfeit risk are all called out.
- Commission never buys rank. Our affiliate relationships are disclosed on every page and have no bearing on ordering.

A note on counterfeits
Australia has a substantial grey market in fragrance, and counterfeiting of high-demand bottles — Baccarat Rouge 540, Aventus, Lost Cherry and Sauvage especially — is widespread. Buy from authorised stockists or sellers who photograph the batch code, and treat a price far below the ranges we publish as a warning rather than a bargain.
